Hope ‘n’ Change is like an alternate universe experience:  all the news & latest headlines are the same as in our world, except they’re funny.  John Boehner is here preparing to take the gavel from Pelosi, but this time he’s threatening her with it.  New congressional Republicans read aloud from the Constitution, and in response a Democrat rises demonically from a bed a la “The Exorcist.”  Creator Stilton Jarlsberg presents thorough highlights of what’s going down in the world in a style anything but smelly or European despite his name.   It’s a blog I still go back to regularly and recommend highly, especially if you can’t stand leftists.

Jamie Glazov’s new show has an astounding line-up of interviews scheduled (Robert Spencer, Stanley Kurtz, etc.) including some of the foremost experts on Islamoterrorism in the world today.  Here’s the premiere installment, with part two already available at Frontpage Magazine.  Phillippe Karsenty has courageously exposed a notorious hoax perpetrated by virulent antisemitic participants (and bought into by the ever anti-Israel left, as usual).  Must-viewing for fans of Courage.

SondraK’s astounding blog is one of the two or three most entertaining spots on the web, it’s now been scientifically proven.  She digs up photos, issues and things to laff about better than anybody and comments on them with fun, hard-to-describe edginess.  This photo and the caption below give a hint at the kind of no-holds-barred smokin’ original conservative observation that goes down here at breakneck speed.  Check it out as soon as possible, ignore it at your own risk.

 it’s art.
Angry, angry art.

Via David Thompson, we learn of an amusing protest at the Tate museum, in which we see a fascinating breakdown in lefty logic.

David expands on it well but the long and short of it is, the protesters who are pissed that the government is cutting funding – i.e. tax dollars – to the Tate are the same bunch who, not so long ago, protested the acceptance of funding from BP estimated at nearly 500,000 pounds, or crumpets, or whatever they use for money in middle earth.  The money is only acceptable if it’s taken by force.
We also see a complete breakdown of the “svelte & sexy European vs. fat pasty American” trope.

I was honored to be interviewed by that titan of anti-leftism, Dr. Jamie Glazov: interview  now up at Frontpage Magazine.  Any readers interested in some of the ideas and motivations behind Diversity Lane are welcome to read the extended, two-page interview here.

Dr. Jamie Glazov of Frontpage Magazine has just published what Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney calls “the most important book in America.”  After reading the full review by Richard Perle at Frontpage it hardly sounds like an overstatement.  From Perle’s review:

“In this extraordinary collection of interviews, Jamie Glazov demonstrates that consistent, searching questions can both enrich and impart coherence to disparate answers: for what emerges from 29 interviews conducted over eight years is an illuminating  and important commentary on the largest issues facing America and the West.

It is a commentary whose preoccupation reflects history—Jamie’s Glazov’s history, rich in the issues of identity, freedom, truth telling and courage.  Jamie, it may be said, has had rather more history than he needed—as a man whose parents were dissidents in the Soviet Union and who was taught the values of freedom and the courage to fight for it from the beginning.  It is no wonder that he is so wholly absorbed in understanding and opposing, radical, political Islam and its apologists.  Today’s “useful idiots,” like those who preceded them, are drawn almost entirely from the Left.  Indeed, many of the individuals are the same, as is the intellectual foundation of their obsessive disdain for the liberal values of an open society.  In one way or another nearly all the interviews in this book touch on the readiness of the Left, in an often ludicrous pursuit of political correctness, to accept, and even to advance, the Islamist agenda that has replaced communism as the principal threat to western values and civilization…”

Diversity Lane would like to thank VDARE, the courageous website supported by former Forbes editor Peter Brimelow and his VDARE Foundation.  Focusing on illegal immigration and related issues, this is one of the most stunningly honest and therefore important sites I know of and it was a great honor to receive their attention in this recent piece.

Thanks To Frontpage Magazine for this piece, which ran at the website earlier this week.  I’m most grateful to founder David Horowitz, editor Jamie Glazov and all involved at Frontpage, easily one of the world’s most important and courageous websites for many years now.

Afficionados of George Orwell, political fables, political cartoons and powerful symbolic imagery, take note: Oliver’s Tale, Paul Ibbetson’s conservative twist on Animal Farm, has just been released and is now available at Paul’s website, Amazon.com and CreateSpace.com.  A press release discloses fascinating hints of what’s to come: “…The story of how one average squirrel became a servant of God and led a revolution to save the animals of Three Fingers Cove [from] the Gray Skunk, the most mesmerizing and dangerous foe the Cove has ever faced.”    This sounds not only like a one-of-a-kind literary feast for any political junkie but also a sort of Essential Reading for your children or grandchildren to help them comprehend the ever-unvanquished threat of the Left– particularly these tumultuous days.   Author, columnist and radio host Paul (The Conscience of Kansas) Ibbetson’s unique background makes the prospect of this political read all the more intriguing:  among many other credits he’s a former Chief of Police holding an MA in Criminal Justice and currently completing his Ph.D. in Sociology.  I can’t imagine anyone better equipped to man the helm of an allegorical warning about the perils of liberalism.

[Actual letter to leftist talk radio host Bill Press]

Dear Mr. Bill Press,

Today while I was scanning through channels on my new XM radio I came across your program on XM’s American Left Channel. You were discussing President Obama and Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon’s comments on Arizona’s law to enforce a pre-existing Federal Law. Your comments were how terrible this law was and that you were on the side of President Obama, President Calderon, and millions of illegal immigrants who are in this country now or seek to violate our laws by crossing our border improperly in the future. While I am certain that I am not your typical listener, being that there was no tinfoil on my head while I was listening to protect from my brain wave patterns from being read, I decided to call in to your show anyway.

Your phone screener who took my call and asked for my question seemed very friendly until I told him what I was calling about. My question was “Which part of the Arizona law, specifically, were you in fear would violate the Civil Rights of American Citizens who were not in violation of any law or engaging in suspicious activity which would cause Law Enforcement Professionals to stop the individual?” and “Have you read the ten (10) page law?” Your call screener informed me that you did not have time to take my question.

I must have lost signal while in discussion with your call screener and had to call back due to no longer being connected when I was asking why you would not take my call. I was immediately able to get through to the same screener again, which tells me that I was the only caller, and asked him why you would not take my the question.

He put me on hold for a minute then came back and said that you did not want to take the question. This can only lead me to believe that, much like Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, President Obama, and everyone else on the President’s staff, you have not read the law of which you are not in favor. So, I am asking you now, are you not in favor or Arizona’s right as a state to empower its law enforcement professionals to enforce federal laws, or are you not in favor of the federal laws themselves? Would you actually prefer that people could come across our borders without any documentation, process, or paperwork? Do you support Illegal Immigration or do you think that people who break the law should have to face punishment for the laws that were broken?

If your car were struck by an illegal immigrant and you were told by your insurance company that you were responsible for the damages because the person who was actually at fault was not a U.S. citizen and therefore did not have insurance, driver’s license or valid address, may I suppose that you would not mind that the individual wouldn’t be held accountable for their actions and wouldn’t be sent back to their country of origin?

Mexico has much harsher Illegal Immigration laws than we do. For first offence the penalty is two years in prison. The second is about ten years. Do you favor Mexico’s Immigration laws? Are you in favor of the harsh penalty that is imposed? Do you support the rights of the Mexican Government to enforce laws within their own country? If you support the rights of the Mexican Government, why do you not support the right of a state to make laws that strengthen U.S. laws?

I understand that this was not a fair discussion. I brought intelligence along with a well thought-out argument. I’m citing actual facts and actually HAVE read the bill. I had hoped that even though you were unarmed in a battle of wits you would still find time to debate me on the air. Maybe others can call your show at 866-557-7377 and have more luck than I did about asking if you have read the ten page bill or not.

Perhaps it was an unfair question. I understand that to keep your job of Left Wing Radio Host you have to at least appear to be of the same intelligence as your listeners. Possibly it was the phrasing of the question that made it difficult to answer. Instead of Illegal Immigrant, maybe I should have used the phrase “Undocumented Democrat Voter”. Perhaps then you might have been able to answer. Perhaps one day we might stop being racist and unjust as a nation and stop the illegal practice of writing our laws in English, which not all of our residents understand. Or maybe we can commission all those artists, encouraged by Nancy Pelosi to quit their jobs and pursue their passion, to rewrite the laws of the U.S. in picture pages so everyone can understand them.

Visitors and friends: I am taking a little time away from the weekly cartoons in order to prepare a large-scale Diversity Lane book compilation to be published later this year.  Included will be dozens of never-before-seen cartoons.  Also, many of my 150-odd earlier cartoons were originally drawn in a hurry and are being spiffed up and even partially redrawn in order to improve them in every way for inclusion in the book.  As soon as possible I will resume the regular blog postings and emailings.  Till then– thanks for your patience!

Hope ‘n’ Change is manned by suspiciously named author/artist Stilton Jarlsberg.  He hates lefty Democrats, has a great sense of fun and possesses the largest collection of old graphic clip-art and cartoons known to man; what more could you ask for in a conservative blog?  For extra credit he maintains a very regular running commentary on the news in a pithy, appropriately Obama-skewering tone that should keep you coming back for tomorrow’s installment.  Super-creative and much recommended.

Here’s a real find:  Chad Kent Speaks is a new website with short videos featuring young professional public speaker Chad’s exciting, down to earth approach to American government.  You’ll come away from these a) interested all over again about our Founding Principles and b) wishing these videos were longer.   Fortunately you can find more of his public speaking at the blog linked at this website and at Youtube where I found these.   Highly recommended for you, your family and your kid who thinks he doesn’t care about dry historical stuff and what’s really in the Constitution but will learn that he does after hearing a couple of these vids.  Liberals, beware: this stuff scoffs at the “living Constitution” concept and may be harmful to your self-delusions.

[This out-of-the-park hit is the last word on the Polanski debacle.  Courtesy of bookseller/writer Craig S. Maxwell at the ever-indispensable Maxwell’s House of Books, my primary source for reading material.]

During the course of his debates with Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln wisely observed that, “Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it nothing can succeed. Consequently he who molds public sentiment, goes deeper than he who enacts statutes or pronounces decisions. He makes statutes and decisions possible or impossible to be executed.”

Today, however, Lincoln’s insight is troubling–especially given Hollywood’s influence over the nation. Regrettably, this small, sordid suburb of Los Angeles is one of the world’s most powerful molders of “public sentiment”, and the recently focused attention on acclaimed director Roman Polanski should serve to remind us of of this fact. Over the years, movies have increasingly relied on the extreme, the perverse and the profane to sell themselves. But this is far from being the mere commercial exploitation of controversially “racy” material by cynical, yet otherwise bourgeois studio execs who “know better.” It is, rather, a clear reflection of the morally denuded minds of its makers–the producers and directors–those unwitting, third-hand consumers and distributors of the philosophical corrosives contrived by Rousseau, Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Heidegger, Sorel, Sartre, Foucault, Derrida, et al. For over one hundred years, their destructive ideas have filtered down from academe and into popular culture. What “lesson” did they teach? Primarily, that truth and morality have no objective, universal content, and are nothing more than the arbitrary expressions of cultural bias, or the individual’s will to dominate. Thus, for their disciples, it followed that to free oneself from the fetters of traditional morality was to undertake a bold adventure in self-discovery, liberation and “progressive” thinking.

Traces of this “enlightened” perspective can be seen in the conspicuously calculated, dismissive and self-exonerating remarks of Roman Polanski who, when questioned about the thirteen year old girl he drugged and raped, told the interviewer that he was no aberration, and that (in truth), “everybody [deep down] wants to (four-letter obscenity deleted) little girls”; or in those of Woody Allen who, when questioned about the propriety of the affair he was having with his wife’s adopted daughter, blandly replied, “The heart wants what it wants.”

Our world was built on the solid pillars of three, great civilizations: Jerusalem, Athens and Rome. The first taught us to pray; the second, to think; and the third, to govern. Yet as strong as they are, these pillars require our respectful study, contemplation and defense, if they are to continue bearing the tremendous weight of the West. Absent this attention, we will continue to witness our ongoing decay, and eventual collapse.
