I think she should ATTEMPT suicide several times but fail. And her failures should be due to her leftist perspective (for example as a leftist she’s unable to properly operate a firearm … or she tries to kill herself by running her new Nissan Leaf in the garage, or hang herself with poor quality homemade hemp rope … stuff like that).

I think that she should be allowed to TRY it and fail.
She can then come back rejuvenated as it could be viewed as a sign that her work here is not done. Just crazy enough to fit here persona…

Devon hits bottom and decides to kill herself. As one last “Screw-You” to corporate America, she decides to kill herself by eating at McDonald’s every day.

Eating good tasting food and saving money makes Deven start to feel better, but the cognitive dissonance drives her back into a deep depression.

    Rinse and repeat . . .

    Si, se puede!

BTW, it has to be done to a soundtrack (something “angst-y”, maybe Depeche Mode’s “Knocking at Death’s Door”, except that mentions religion, so something more secular) and the disposal of the remains has to unique – think Hunter S. Thompson having his ashes shot from a cannon. There is nothing more tragic than a banal suicide – make it count!

Get rid of Diversity Lane’s only man-hating, forever scowling lesbian ??
    No!!… heavens NO-!!!
Who would you replace her with?… perhaps some militant ‘Code Pink’ funeral director ??
We need Devon around for the 2012 elections… just too many possible spicy outcomes to not have her in ‘the mix’.

How about this; we could have Devon make some hilariously ironic suicide attempt, like, on Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday, throwing herself in front of an on-coming (eco-friendly) electric people mover train — just as there is another California power black-out (due to grid over-loads)… and she is stuck in place, waiting for a delayed rescue crew, who is blocked by a long passing Boy Scout parade… all the while, TV cameras have her on the 6pm live news feed,… twisting and suffering from exposure to those Scouting themes and values, instead of being simultaneously electrocuted and chopped to pieces ~
Afterwards, Devon could develop a severe eating disorder,… ordering & eating endless Shari’s Berries, ordered through Rush Limbaugh’s webpage, and ballooning into a black, moo-moo wearing couch potato… watching Joel Osteen re-runs all week long~ (imagine the look on Alex Lane’s face?)

Eventually, something could re-charge her militant inner self… and her born-lesbo-again health kick could be a whole series that even exasperates the ever-stoned Sierra…
    Who knows?

Have her ATTEMPT suicide, but fail. She awakens in the Emergency Room after having her near-death experience, and begins explaining about how she met God (or “Gaia” as She called Herself). She was told how it was not her time to go, as she still had much work to do on Earth, fighting the good fight defending oppressed Muslims, spreading the good word of homosexuality, and ending Global Warming.

The experience also has a rather profound effect on Devon, as she goes to Diversity and apologizes for her arrogant behavior towards her. While she doesn’t fully support her ideals, Devon promises to be nicer and more supportive of whatever path she chooses in life (after all, she might become ‘experimental’ in her college years!). She even takes Diversity out for a milkshake! (Well, a ‘Partially-Gelatinated-Non-Dairy-Gum-Based-Beverage’, but it’s a start.)

A few days later, a call from the doctor calls that Diversity answers. He explains that there was rather abnormal brain activity during her short coma after being admitted, and her blood tests shortly before being released showed trace amounts of LSD in her system. Diversity discovers that in Devon’s bathroom, right next to her sleeping pills, are Sierra’s “Special, Organic, Mother Earth” brand sleeping pills she tried to sell when she went to a Phish concert for New Year’s. Diversity decides that it’s best to tell Devon the truth about her ‘visit with God’…eventually.

Yes, by all means; however, I think that it ought to be something in the vein of “Timmy” on South Park. You’ll present a scene of her putting the noose around her neck, or swallowing poison, or walking out into a busy highway with a blindfold–but she keeps coming back again for more. That way, you can use your vast imagination as to how many ways she can carry it out.

It’s just tough when your one of the FEW miserable people in the whole country. Her life goal is to enlighten us all and make us join her! Bumping herself off would be like surrendering to George W. I agree: she should attempt to attempt it–and fail. It’s only a showy statement, isn’t it?

I am reminded of a similarly splashy faked suicide in “Gigi”:
“Liane d’Exelmans has commited suicide… again”.
    “How did she do it?”
    “The usual way, insufficient poison.”

Devon is the sort we love to hate. We cannot do without her. Villains need to be tried and true, too!

Devon decides to end it all and throws herself into the path of an oncoming bus, only to be snatched back at the last second by Bristol Palin, who is on her way to speak at a function promoting abstinence only education. Her life saved, but dazed and bruised, Devon is taken to a nearby Catholic hospital, where she must remain overnight for observation and is placed in a room with no remote control and the TV tuned to FOX News. Desperate to drown out the truth emanating from the TV, she grabs for the only reading material within reach, a copy of The National Review. Devon decides she wasn’t saved after all, but has died and gone to Hell.

    Devon, a poem

    Goodbye, cruel world, farewell,
    Could be her oft-spoke knell,
    With angry tear, she’d cried.
    She could slit her throat,
    But just enough to gloat
    And say she really tried.
Leap from a window to the ground
    Being sure a haystack’s found
    To show she hadn’t lied.
    Grab electric wires quite hot,
For the attention that it got,
    But not get really fried.
    Swallow poison in some way,
That one might save her and thereby say
    “A failed suicide.”
    Despondent is as despondent does,
As liberals moan their weary buzz,
    To rue elections’ tide.
It’s sure, poor dear, she’ll try again,
For comes the time — we all know when —
    Progessives deeper slide.
    Goodbye, cruel world, farewell,
    Again’ll be her oft-said knell,
    And whining, Leftist pride.

If Devon has made up her mind to do it it is her “CHOICE”. She should have the “FREEDOM” to commit suicide if she wants. Then she will be despondent knowing she has the freedom to make a choice about something. Devon will not be used to this idea that she must make up her own mind about something. She will fall into a deep depression with this new-found freedom. She will stop eating and sleep most of her day away. She cant turn to her friends for support because they will shun her for her accidental revelation about choice. Not sure of a direction to take, she will wonder into the “DIVERSE” part of town to get help from the undocumented Americans residing there. Unable to communicate with her fellow “CITIZENS” she will pander to them about how much she cares about them and they must never acclimate to the culture of this country and then wander back to her neighborhood. However tragically, she does not make it back to her home. A group of “DIVERSE” “CITIZENS” in this neighborhood will surround her and demand she share her wealth with them. She will refuse their offer by saying it is stealing to take something that belongs to her. The “DIVERSE” group will take no heed and demand she redistribute her wealth one final time or else they will result to CHE GUEVERA tactics. Devon’s final refusal will earn her a bullet from a gun and they will redistribute her wealth anyway. So ends Devon.

She should wring her hands about it, stew over it, see the with angst thinking about it and then…in absolutely classic, progressive “shift the responsibility to others” mode, she finds a way to get someone else to do it TO her, thus eliminating a hard decision for her AND supporting her view that the world is a hateful place, esp. towards HER!

I cannot take full credit for this idea. There is a movie “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?”. In it, Jane Fonda goes downhill the whole movie, and in the end decided to kill herself…BUT TALKS HER BOYFRIEND INTO PULLING THE TRIGGER, avoiding a tough decision and ruining his life as well.

  3. @ Noneof Yourbiz:

    “Manchild sociopath”

No. Don’t use “sociopath” lightly. Its official medical definition be damned—-I prefer to reserve it for those who murder other human beings in cold blood without a shred of remorse. (Sure, a psychologist with fifty degrees would tell me it’s much more specific than that, but it’s my completely ignorant, uneducated opinion that there are a lot of undiagnosed sociopaths out there. Tragically, many of them are packing illegally-acquired heat.)

“Manchild”—No good, either. I think that word is usually associated with people who are totally dysfunctional as adults.

You’re quite correct about seeing the world in black and white, however. I just wish that there was something blacker than black and whiter than white, because sometimes even super-high contrast lenses aren’t enough to quite capture the essence of a worldview. =)

The idea of a character offing him/herself to be “free” from the grip of their creator—-that’s kind of intriguing, actually. A story begging to be written….

  8. Most people who say that are sincere, as they would never in fact harm anyone or support violent repression.
It’s just that they willfully blind themselves to the sheer ugliness of what they’re saying, and how it has had a cumulative effect on the entire landscape.

That, of course, excludes the people who are indeed self-aware enough to understand EXACTLY what they’re saying, find it hilarious to talk casually of violence, and are either unmoved or appreciative when violence does occur. Such people are thugs, plain and simple.

I think she should have a near-death experience which opens her eyes to what a bad ‘aunt’ she’s being to Diversity, so she decides they need to spend a lot more time together, much to Diversity’s disgust. They could go to a gay bar together, wouldn’t that be fun? Or a modern art exhibit.

Either that or she dies and they have a lovely Humanist funeral, with a Pagan blessing just to be sure…she’s laid to rest in an eco-friendly cardboard coffin, the responisbly sourced flower wreaths hand-made by orphaned people of color are put on her grave and everyone says their goodbyes…and as they walk away, the ground shakes and her hand shoots up from it like a zombie. Because you can’t kill the Left, it’ll always come back, like the monster from a horror movie.

I don’t think Devon would want to commit suicide just to be gone, I think she’d want to make sure that Everyone Got The Message about what drove her to this awful state of mind.

She therefore commits a “virtual” suicide of the Liberal Devon and becomes (or comically tries to become) a new, Conservative Devon – dressed in frilly dresses, attending church (she could ease into it, visiting the congregation of Jeremiah Wright), waving the flag, and watching Fox News while smiling.

Her goal in becoming this parody of a Conservative is to theatrically show everyone just how awful Conservatives are. But of course, it wouldn’t work. People would probably not only fail to get the message, but would like her BETTER.

And eventually a turning point would come (perhaps the healing hand of Barack Obama?) and the liberal Devon-we-love-to-hate would return. Because she’s much too fun to lose.

Wow. This could be milked for a long time.

    Possible Scenarios:

    1) Being a principled (snort) liberal, she wants to do it in an environmentally/socially/economically/justice-y responsible manner. Given that the Left is chaotic and illogical she will consult with the family and will propose various methods only to be blasted time and time as each proposed method does not conform with some idiotic Leftist tenant.

    2) The family will be all for it (freedom of choice you know) but will have screaming matches about who is the most moral in the family and therefore the most worthy to help her kill herself.

3)She will come up with many elaborate plans to off herself but will continuously be distracted by the emotion of the moment/chain jerk put out by the MSM.

    4) Her stated desire will spark a inter-family screaming argument about the best method to use. She will become disgusted with that and will go to the beach, get a sunburn, blame it on global warming, apply for a governmental grant to confirm her ironclad evidence (peeling sunburn) that the earth is indeed warming. Then she gets the grant and a job working for that Dr. Johnson at NASA. She tells him about her self-death plan and He tells her don’t worry about it as we will all be dead within a few years anyway. She will then come home beaming and happy as a clam anticipating our imminent, well deserved and certain doom. The family will be shocked and walk around on eggshells as this is the first time they have seen her happy and their fear is she will start liking things and that could lead to conservatism. They then hatch a plan to piss her off about something so that she goes back to being mean, sullen, nasty and suicidally depressed again because “We’re Liberals you know, so we know what is best for you Dear”.

This could go on for years.

Maybe because I don’t want to remain in an echo chamber where I only listen to people who say things I agree with politically? Maybe I want to see what the other side says and thinks? This is an award-winning comment thread!!!
Never have I read such an on-purpose, focused, intelligent, creative, humorous, collection of comments.
Youz guyz are fantastic and I include the half-dozen porch minkee friends too.
I am blown away & can’t think of anything I could add that you haven’t already thoroughly exploited!

The reaction I’m having is: What would happen if most of the gang here banded together & daily ‘group responded’ to some insane libtard site & post.
With an group emailing, a selected site & post could be targeted & ‘bombarded’ quickly & relentlessly! FWIW. (Yeah, I know I’m using naughty words that will drive some whacko whacko!)

I agree with all the comments about repeated failed suicide attempts, but Diversity’s responses & comments are where the ‘bingos’, ‘punch lines’, ‘zingers’, ‘gotchas’, etc. are!

Jim Rob, one of Life’s Little Lessons out there to be had is that the universe does not revolve around people’s gay-ness. Or black-ness, or left-handed-ness, blood type, or whatever. It’s helpful to expand one’s self-image to include affiliations more substantial than mere sexual preference. Just sayin’.

You’d do well at Free Republic, Lance. Look up “Freep this poll” on your search engine of choice.

  16. @ Jim Rob:

Exactly. That undercurrent is there, and it’s that kind of thing that can be the difference between dark-yet-still-funny humor, and something that is little better than bullying.

    @ Lovin’ DL:

“Jim Rob, one of Life’s Little Lessons out there to be had is that the universe does not revolve around people’s gay-ness.”

DL, you are absolutely right, and that’s the irony, here. Conservatives—that is, those conservatives who place themselves between gays and full legal rights—are the ones who see that ONE trait about a person, and nothing else. Everything’s about their sexual orientation, no matter its relevance to anything.
Ideally, gays would be people, not “gay people.” But for many, being a member of a discriminated minority leaves one with no choice but to center their identity (at least publicly/politically) around that discriminated trait. This holds true for race, religion, and all the rest, wherever the discrimination takes place. And how could it plausibly be otherwise?
This would not be remotely true if there was not discrimination/ostricization/prejudice in the first place, and of course those things are being perpetuated by the very people who prevent the discriminated from being full members of society.

This is why even though your words are quite correct, you have to realize the irony of them being spoken by a (assumed) political conservative.

Maybe it’s not about her ‘gay-ness’, but let’s read Devon’s lovely character bio. First line:

“Eternally angry lesbian intellectual & live in girlfriend of Allison”

Woah two mentions of “GAY, she’s GAY” in one line right at the start!

Funny enough Allison’s bio has no mention of her lesbianism, but I assume part of her indoctrination of poor youths is the gay agenda, but at least it’s not overtly said. Zach, tell us, what did the mean lesbians do to you as a boy?

There goes Marbles again with his favorite sniveling liberal cause… “gay” people are minorities.
How about the 1.5% – 3% of the population that suffers from the leading 5 or 10 other mental disorders and maladaptive behaviors?
Can we give them the sacred “minority” status, too ??
How about “gay” parking spots ?

The wimpy-sniveling dishonesty in your values Marbles is – people creating an “…identity” around urges for destructive behavior — IS SICK-!! …it is gutless, it is pathetic.

Your dear homosexual pets all have the same “rights” I do. However, just as I am, they are subject to consequences of their behavior.

Marbles, thanks for your civil and thought-out reply. I’d describe myself as a libertarian, as I suspect would many ‘conservatives’ here and elsewhere.

And as a libertarian, I disagree with your implied assumption about ‘discrimination’. I’m not aware of any remaining areas in which gays do not enjoy the same rights (or rapidly vanishing traces of our former rights) as every other adult citizen, and a level of legal acceptance and freedom in our current US society undreamt of in human history. Property rights, free association, freedom of travel, voting, etc. It’s worth bearing in mind that the very notion of ‘gay’ as a concept is a brand-new sociological science experiment being conducted solely in the tolerant West. The last major social experiment along these lines took place amid the decline of Rome; not a happy ending there. For perspective, within living memory of Boomer adults, homosexuality was both a psychiatric illness and a crime.
And if global Islam continues to gain power and influence, all bets are off; the Muslim Brotherhood has very different plans for American society than you and I do.
So while we still have the Western freedom to debate social niceties and pre-Sharia fine points of sensitive feelings, I invite you to consider that in a free society to view someone’s behavior, lifestyle choices, and/or public persona with personal/private DISAPPROVAL (as is everyone’s right) does not come within a country mile of DISCRIMINATION.
It’s a pampered current liberal-statist folly to lament as victim discrimination one’s lifestyle assertions being viewed askance while daily exercising all the rights of every other citizen as a ‘full member of society’. Behind that mindset of aspiring to the laurel wreath of victimhood, IMHO, lie unexamined the Orwellian assumptions of enforced Groupthink mandating mass embrace of official dogma. Any individual dissent becomes ‘homophobia’, aka Thoughtcrime.

And in the end the Universe still doesn’t revolve around anyone’s gayness, and in a very few short years the death struggle of civilizations between the West and Islam will make all this seem indescribably quaint.

    Just sayin’. YMMV.

“I’m not aware of any remaining areas in which gays do not enjoy the same rights (or rapidly vanishing traces of our former rights) as every other adult citizen. Property rights, free association, freedom of travel, voting, etc.”

And how long have those things been true, LDL? Go back forty years. Save for voting, good luck with all that freedom of association, travel, and property.
It was the ancestors of today’s voices who would be using the exact language and the exact justifications people use today for budging that line in the sand one inch further, toward ending blatent discrimination and legalized persecution.

“For perspective, within living memory of Boomer adults, homosexuality was both a psychiatric illness and a crime.”

    Yes…?

And that means that they should be perfectly happy to settle for being treated as less than fully equal to the rest of us? That they should be “grateful” for their second-class status just because they are no longer being thrown in jail and studied like freaks by coldblooded headshrinkers?
Come on. Think about what you’re saying.

“The last major social experiment along these lines took place amid the decline of Rome; not a happy ending there.”

If we fall like Rome, it will be because of our proud ignorance, coarsened culture, provinciality, selfishness, broken families, crumbled infrastructure, degraded civic education, fiscal irresponsibility and imperial overreach.

Not because of a few girls kissing each other.

“…the Muslim Brotherhood has very different plans for American society than you and I do.”

    Come ON, LDL.

What’s that, Muslim Brotherhood? You have “plans” for American society? Oooooh, I’m REAL scared! Our U.S. Army surely doesn’t stand a chance against a ragtag bunch of misogynist yokels who can’t wait to off themselves so they can go to heaven and get blown 72 times in just their first five minutes there! HOW will our institutions and solid foundation of independent thought possibly stand a chance against the seductive lure of outlawing alcohol and mandating prayer? We’ll surely lose our vulnerable young people in droves to the appealing prospects of repressed sexuality and oppression of half the human race!

    Okay, jerkass mode off. XD

Of all the fearmongering narratives the American right has ever engaged in, this “impending Sharia Law” nonsense has got to be the most absurd of them all.

“I invite you to consider that in a free society to view someone’s behavior, lifestyle choices, and/or public persona with personal/private DISAPPROVAL (as is everyone’s right) does not come within a country mile of DISCRIMINATION.”

You’re overlooking the fact that most parts of this land not only forbid gays to marry, but also refuse to grant their relationships ANY legitimacy in other venues—hospital visitations, etc. Can you imagine what it must be like to live like that? No, you can’t. And neither can I. For that we are quite fortunate, don’t you think?

“It’s a pampered current liberal-statist folly to lament as victim discrimination one’s lifestyle assertions being viewed askance…”

Look at what gets said about gay people. Re-sensitize yourself to it and view it as if for the first time. How would you like to be spoken about like that? By MILLIONS of people in your own country and culture? Millions who had a leg up over you in terms of legal rights? How would you feel if you had to justify the legitimacy of your romantic relationships to leering tormentors who view you as something frightening, even something wicked? How would you be able to stand knowing that those compassionless millions are the very ones who, bizarrely, actually hold the power to determine whether your struggles and your dreams mean anything?

This stuff matters, LDL. It all adds up.

“Behind that mindset of aspiring to the laurel wreath of victimhood, IMHO, lie unexamined the Orwellian assumptions of enforced Groupthink mandating mass embrace of official dogma. Any individual dissent becomes ‘homophobia’, aka Thoughtcrime.”

I’d tell you what I think of politically correct groupthink, but I suspect certain vulgarities are frowned upon here.
The trouble is, what many who reside in a particular ideological corner interpret as “politically correct groupthink” is really just simple human decency. Painting it otherwise is just a contrarian refusal to be decent to those who are different from them.

As for REAL politically correct groupthink, the sooner we free ourselves from its grip, the better. That is all.

And the “homophobia as Thoughtcrime” thing—–honestly. I value civility, LDL, but that tired old trope really does make me sick. Because it’s so blatently dishonest. By pretending that homosexuals are demanding that the rest of us “embrace” their “lifestyle,” contrarians have been able to paint the struggle for tolerance and equality as some kind of militant indocrtination. It’s complete nonsense, but unfortunately it’s a popular narrative all over the world.

    Marbles garbles many things,
Which is a right I guess,
When ones plays the game so studiously
    Of a cultural Marxist’s chess.

    Move the pieces all about,
    And never accept an error,
    But whoop and holler longly
As if opposing thought’s a terror.

“Proud ignorance” is what is seen
    Alongside “imperial overreach.”
I’d say that says really quite a lot
    About Obama’s deeds and speech.

    “Crumbled infrastructure?”
    It’s an inner cities’ mess.
    Most of this has come
From playing dear old Lefty chess.

    “Degraded education” — gasp —
That’s the nice SEIU and NEA.
Their hopes and dreams become reality
    In the Lefty’ changed USA.

    “Fiscal irresponsibility,”
    Now there’s a laugher, sure,
To tell the shape and scope of it,
    From the debtor’s point-of-view.

So who wants more fiscal mess
And much more debt to pile on?
Why, the Left like Marbles’ garbles,
    Whose answers smile wan.

    A debt ceiling which changes
Is no debt ceiling at all,
As for Rome and all its legions,
    They couldn’t stop their fall.

    My favorite though is this:
    “Broken families” are Left subsidized,
As with such subsidies, they grow
Because with such help they’ve multiplied.

Good — nay Great — Society
    With its caring, bossy tsars
Has brought the nation to this time
When growing ills are its avatars.

    “Struggle” is the watchword
    As issues run in herds,
    And confusion reigns supreme
When one garbles all the words.

“Old tired tropes” make her sick?
    What of the Lefty’s chess?
Marx and Gramsci, and all their kin,
Are both old and tired, I stress.

But up they rise, again and again,
Because that’s the old, troping game.
The Left has made so much a mess,
They want others to shoulder blame.

    Social justice cries aloud
    Because it squeezes bucks
From those afraid to answer it
And its Lefty jive and shuck.

    Jim Rod-
First, how about you get a copy of your state and the Federal constitutions, and read item by item, through them… then get back to us where it says ‘for heterosexuals only.’

You have the same rights to marriage with a woman as I do – and in my state, I have no right to marry a same sex partner.
So far, that is equal. The fact that your desires (for complicated reasons) have steered you elsewhere, does not constitute others violating your “rights”.
Perhaps that bothers your feelings – too bad, truth is truth.

Next, please advise us of how many other behavioral-based groups claiming minority status, we need to accommodate. Your assertions that because of your sexual attractions, you rightly deserve the status of “race, color & creed”, is frankly a dishonest and preposterous claim.

If you disagree, how about you let us know how soon the bestiality “minority” group will hop out of their closet, and claim minority status too?
You think that is an absurd comparison? — nope,… anyone who likes copulating with their collie, can use every bit of the rationalizations the homosexual community does.
Further, after you successfully corrupt the institution of marriage with ‘same-sex’ marriages, there is not one legal argument to prevent polygamist marriages, or incestuous marriages either.

However, as you tend to be of a secular-humanist value base,… “feelings”, “self affirmation”, “inclusiveness”, “diversity”,… these all rule your world views… the merits be damned.

You have the right to marry the person you love, I do not, it’s simple as that.

As for the slippery slope fallacy, well I have no issue with poly-marriage, as long as everyone consents and is legal who am I to say ‘ew gross’? Incest is not legal in most states, you’re free to fight that if you are passionate but I think inbreeding and such has a bit more of a foothold in rational reasoning for banning then ‘ew gross’ and ‘god said no’ had for making gays illegal.

Bestiality, animals can’t consent, you can’t have an animal sign a contract, that’s basic law, it won’t change.

And to preempt it, same reasoning for pedophilia, you legally cannot consent until 18, that’s a basic tenant of law in america.

Try to imagine it from the other side, imagine loving some one deeply, and seeing oh so many ‘blessed’ marriages fall apart around you and end horribly, but someone read in a book that you’re gross, so you can’t. I will never cheapen or devalue your marriage, in fact even if you and I were next door neighbors, the only way my marriage would ever effect you is that at one point my boyfriend would become my husband. America was founded on equality and justice, but a segment of the population still cannot get either. If the founders knew now what we know (No, it’s not a disease, no, we don’t want your kids, no, we don’t want you to be totally honest), they would be for equality, because they were willing to lay their lives down for that notion.

Oh do shut up Siegmund and actually READ what he wrote.

How is it dishonest Steve? Homosexuality is a legitimate lifestyle. Bestiality and Zoophilia are not, because the partners of those relationships are not consenting adults. (There is no comparison, by the way, and I’m insulted you would make that comparison even.) And polygamy is not a valid legal arrangement due to the laws being written for a two partner relationship. Incest? Fine, I can’t give you an answer for that one, but that’s such a microscopic fraction of a percentage that it doesn’t matter really, who would want to marry their sister/brother really? I wouldn’t.

Tell us, directly, why you don’t want someone to marry the one man or woman they love, and why exactly it’s seeking a special right to do as such.

I think Obama should have special “gay” taxes for your tender “minority” crowd… he has a special tax for tanning salons, why not put appropriate extra taxes of the risks of homosexual behavior?
Why not ??? Risks are risk factors…
Queen San Fran Nancy (Pelosi) would be just sooo unhappy~

The diseases, STD’s that are far more rampant within in the male homosexual population reads medical version of dungeons & dragons however, the sad facts are the multi-decade history is true.
    Some wonderful “life style”
How come AIDS / HIV in America is still (for 30+ years) such a concern in the homosexual community?
Did you know in the late ’70’s – early ’80’s, that newly seen disease (just among homosexual men, was called GRIDS ?
‘gay related immunodeficiency disease ‘? … gee, what a charming “life style”.

And yes – through IV drug use and bisexuals, it has impinged some in the heterosexual community. However,… in America it hangs over the homosexual community like a plague.

And about you & Jim Rod’s comment about who you ‘choose to love’ — people misplace “love” for all sorts of poor mental health issues. Oh yeah, mental health issues… that might have some linkage to men wanting to copulate with men,… duh ???
You owe you existence to a man and woman ‘loving each other’… not two misguided guys dropping the soap in the bath house together… ya think?
Try bonding with a member of the opposite sex sometime… like nature made us to do -!!

    Manny —
Your last question; marriage is between a man and woman, in a pair bond that has the potential to create, to conceive and bring into the world, children.

Our Judeo-Christians traditions, when properly followed, make for the strongest & most lasting family units, ties, and family tree’s.
The union between a man and a woman has ALWAYS earned special recognition in all stable civilizations.

No two same-sex partners cannot do that. They can lobby to change laws so to adopt… that is not about creating new generations.
Marriage is for a man & woman… go get your codified legal unions, or domestic partner laws passed… those will get you all the legal protections & needs you seek.

    About incest —
    To the degree you consider yourself a decent and conscientious person, consider this;
Have you ever seen what someone can look like, who is a product of two siblings, or other incestuous pregnancy ?

I have – and it is such a terribly sad and, and not to be insensitive to the poor soul who is the product, actually down-right hideous.
This young guy was a walking picture of tragically freakish bodily proportions – he had a huge forehead, big bulging eyes, no eye brows, huge flat nose, tiny little mouth with balloon-size lips, no chin…
He happened to be an avid reader… had massively thick lenses in his glasses,… but still had to hold his paperback book a couple inches from his face.

He had a disproportionately long torso, tiny, midget-like arms and legs. Walking from one part of the factory to another was not easy for him.

Honestly, I will always see a vivid image of this guy the rest of my years.

A few days before I left for a better job, I was talking to someone, and the subject of this guy came up… and that is where I learned his parents were brother & sister.

But, what can incest mean to you, it does not seem to disrupt your night life, right?

There are damn good reasons laws and/or mores’ against incest and homosexual behavior go back before recorded history. Those ‘uptight old timers’ saw & knew the hideous results that could result.
Your ‘here & now’ happening pop-culture is blissfully ignorant of so much history, both old and recent, of how destructive these “life styles” can be.
Go find yourself a decent woman~

  24. “Of a cultural Marxist’s chess.”

    [smile] Uh huh.

    “…Alongside ‘imperial overreach.’
I’d say that says really quite a lot
    About Obama’s deeds and speech.”

Yep. Our overextendedness just suddenly popped up in January 2009, along with our two miliatary occupations and army bases worldwide.

    “‘Crumbled infrastructure?’
    It’s an inner cities’ mess.
    Most of this has come
From playing dear old Lefty chess.”

    Inner cities’ mess, eh?
    How very patriotic.

So the I-35W Mississippi River bridge was in the heart of the slums, was it?

And if by “lefty chess” you mean “dried-up government revenue caused in part by anti-tax politicians”, then sure, you bet!

    “Degraded education” — gasp –
That’s the nice SEIU and NEA.

    See “broken families.”

    “Fiscal irresponsibility,”
    Now there’s a laugher, sure”

Economics 101—-you spend money to generate revenue.
Common sense 101—-cutting taxes for the top brackets while trying to fund enormously expensive military operations that until recently were off the books: illogical and irresponsible.

    “A debt ceiling which changes
Is no debt ceiling at all”

We’ll be sure to meet up at the center of our shantytown after the worldwide economic apocalypse resulting from our default, so that we can further discuss the semantics of what constitutes “debt ceiling”.

    “‘Broken families’ are Left subsidized,
As with such subsidies, they grow
Because with such help they’ve multiplied.

The institution of the family has been undermined by a million and a half things, and one of the many casaulties has been education. Villify the (at times contemptably selfish) NEA all you like, but don’t pretend that even the best teachers in the world are much of a match against the dysfunction and neglect that the kids deal with for the other 18 hours every day.
And subsidies didn’t create that dysfunction. They keep people alive, that’s pretty much it.
(And those who abuse the system by deliberately having a million kids are causing more damage than they’re able to appreciate—see “education”.)

    Marbles —
Your version of “Economics 101” is right on the ‘Marx’, Karl, that is.
Sometime, your ‘hammer & sickle’ theories will have to explain how every single time, time after time,…when tax margins were significantly reduced (to include the upper income folks), revenues to the Treasury increased sharply.
Under Pres. Reagan, revenues nearly doubled.

For you libs, “Facts are stubborn things…”

    Hey Siegmund-!
Great job!! — You have them chasing & dissecting your poems now. Like a dog chasing their tails…

Ya think we should give them a little ‘poetry writing helper’…?
    Like;
    ‘Roses are red,
    Violets are blue,
    Steve’s trying to ‘backseat moderate’,
    How about you ?

Manny – I’ll let you have that one~

  25. And where’s all that revenue from the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts now?

Good friggin grief. You’re going to pull that GRIDS chestnut out of the closet? (no pun intended.) There’s no sense in wasting my time then. To quote the blind seed Taresius from Oedipus, “You have sight, but are blind to your own corruption!”

Good – I suppose you acknowledge then, that letting people keep THEIR MONEY, leads to improved economic activity, freedom,… more productive people have the liberty to hire people and be more productive…!
Free market capitalism works every time~

Where did it go? …easy — go see the Federal spending patterns over the past 6 – 10 years.

  26. When you cut taxes for the poor and lower middle class, they spend it on day to day living. This keeps the engine humming, certainly, but it also does nothing to get them out of their sandpit (which counters the “bootstraps” mythology). And when you cut taxes for the top earners, what overwhelmingly happens is…they keep it. Yes, investment goes on, but a lot of that money returns to their hands and stays right where it is. And that helps no one.

She says, “Economics 101—-you spend money to generate revenue.”

Nancy P-Marbles, you’ve said it straight
    From your imagination’s heart.
In my Econ 101, one must produce at a rate
To earn one’s revenue, as a start.
    Spending money generates money?
    Such circular thinking’s Marx,
    And illogically rollicking funny,
    Like swimming is with sharks.
Money and revenue? They’re the same,
    Though words confuse the many,
So you’re Econ lesson’s to blame,
Confusing a penny with a penny.

One reads above, “To quote the blind seed Taresius from Oedipus, ‘You have sight, but are blind to your own corruption!'”

Blind Tiresias of Thebes lived a while as a gal,
As sex changes have been around that long, old pal.
To refer for authority to a Thebian boy-into-girl
Just sends the discussion into a whole new whirl.
“Good friggin grief” is neither Dante nor Greek,
Which makes me wonder if your argument’s weak.
The problem debating with the folks of the Left
Is that so often of fact and logic they’re bereft.
Let’s chuckle that a thread began with a fiction,
And note the discussion’s become an addiction
To chatter and natter of all sorts of Gramscian things,
While poor Devon sits, waiting to see what life brings.

The point, dear boy, is Devon.
    Does she go to heaven?
Or live and struggle on a while,
Drowning in the old bilge and bile?
Does she get a new lease on life?
Does she become fiance, then wife?
Does she run for office high?
Does she age well, by and by?
Since you’ve lost the train of thought,
    See what your diversions brought?
The point, dear boy, is Devon.
Shall she bear one or seven?
Or does euthanasia end it all?
    Which is her story’s protocol?

No “dear boy”, your point about Tireasias (which I’ll give you that, I misspelled his name) was…what exactly? The flowery prose bit is getting old, you’re trying to hard. There are other styles of prose besides the AB rhyme scheme.

And I’ll point it out again then, for you in a different manner. Referring to the GRIDS line just shows that Steve will not change his mind ever, if he’s going to bring that up from the 70s. It’s a wasted effort on mine and anyone elses’ part to attempt to argue with him on this topic if he’s going to pull that out, or refer to Homosexuality as a mental illness. Yes, it WAS considered as such in times past, but not any longer. Why is that y’think? It’s not because of “THE LIEBERAL GAY AGENDA DEMANDING I GET GAY MARRIED,” I can guarantee you that. The “Gay Agenda” is “get up, go to work, get groceries, etc.”

So, I’ll close with the words of the immortal Groucho Marx. “Go, and never darken my towels again.”

    Manny-
You have some serious estrangements & mental detachments from the intellectual honesty of being able to engage in a debate of idea’s… or the merits of direct, factual arguments.

    That is your existential handicap…
The same mental handicap seems to exist throughout the “gay”-rights mentality culture…
The real-world, tangible consequences of the maladaptive and destructive behavior is answered by your flippant, artsy – fartsy answer; “Go, and never darken my towels again.”

Those must be the towels you ‘twinks’ drop in the bath houses ?

This subject is -over- … concluded.

“There are other styles of prose besides the AB rhyme scheme.”

Sprung rhythm works for me, as for Hopkins too,
There are many schemes, so many you’d turn blue
With critique piled high upon critique, but you
Show not cleverness, humor, light, for if you do,
You’d see that dear Groucho was poking fun; who knew?
Citing lots of clever folks is not proof of your view,
Not truth, nor fact, nor apt, nor that you have a clue.
But sure it is, sans AA rhymes, you’ll drop the other shoe.

  27. Just a quick sidenote about a comment from Manny (I believe) regarding the Photoshop bonuses Zack has been posting. I think they’re terrific, and a great way for him to be able to post for us more frequently. As long as the wonderfully hand-drawn art keeps coming, the rest is just gravy.
