I get a fair amount of flack from liberal/left types who complain that I have no sympathetic people of color in my series.  This is 100% factually untrue, as for example see this and this (and there are others).    Of course, the treatment these sympathetic characters of color receive at the hands of the lefties who run this household is another story; I cannot be held responsible if, for example, Diversity brings a perfectly delightful Latina child home to play with and she is rejected by Devon for being the wrong kind of Latina, politically.

Another point: more than 90% of this series revolves around the inner dynamics of a family which happens to be white– therefore, outside characters in general, of whatever color, will tend to be uncommon.  Until the current administration enacts an Adopt a Person of Color into Your Family policy, the prevailing color around the house will, sadly, tend to be white.

HOWEVER– I am not immune to creative criticism and have today initiated a new, experimental line of Diversity Lane cartoons, based on Politically Corrected earlier cartoons.  Here are three such samples for your inspection, with feedback of all kinds welcome as always (except for profane, vicious and/or substance-free screaming).  I’ve included in this initial series an African-American woman, Latino man, Asian man, and for good measure an Environmentally Sensitive Green Worker.  I hope my new alternative line of Diversity Lane cartoons meets with your approval!

  1. What happened to La Duanye?

The funny thing is, Zack, that in their protestations, they just end up confirming the premises of your ideas. I expect this thread won’t be any different… well done! (again)

  2. LaDuayne is alive and well, Chris E. Again, my point was that I have at times included sympathetic characters of color in the series– not that I have never included unsympathetic ones. Such is life: all races, creeds and colors can and do produce both saints and sinners. One must be rather a blatant partisan ideologue to comb through my backlot of cartoons and find ONLY the negative non-white characters. Mustn’t one now, Chris E.?

  3. Thanks Mark. Jeez, I feel like I can’t win! What do I include next– a Trobriand Islander?

Glad you’re on my side, your contributions this past week or so have been incredibly solid and good.

  4. Sympathetic strawman minorities are less exceptional than you more or less opening your strip with two cartoons about a nightmarish negroid thug straight out of Stormfront propaganda, yes. I wonder why one sticks out more than the other?

    What about La Duayne-?
I sort of miss this fine, young man-!

    (ref: Oct 17 ’08 3:19 am & 4:05am)

I went to jr high school with several ‘La Duaynes’…

He is among those poor, misunderstood youth (whose parents might work at the local ACORN district office).

And, if he has problems getting a j-o-b, it is ALL the fault of the racist stigma and profiling from the “…white-man’s justice system”.

Maxine Waters (Dem, CA) will confirm this, with her blubbering “…no justice, no peace”.

  5. ::snort::

Never commented on a post before. Had to pop in here and let you know you got a chuckle out of me. (ok, and a snort. I was drinking coffee.)

    Well played, sir. ^_^

  6. I’m sorry, I guess I needed some coffee. I shouldn’t have called anyone a racist. You can’t blame children for being afraid of things that are new or different.

Frightened and petulant, maybe. But not racist. I’ll give you all the benefit of the doubt.

    “You people…”, Chris E. -?

Your broad-brush language and misuse of the word “racist” is another tribute to the arrogance of your ignorance.

This is also a time-tested typical tactic of your ideology where you invoke name-calling, “racist” in an attempt to shut down discourse, because you, your side, cannot compete in the arena of idea’s.

It is why your sub-culture wants to shut down Rush Limbaugh, and all of conservative talk radio. YOU folks cannot compete in the free market of idea’s-!

Fact: words ending in ‘ist’ and ‘ism’ are rooted in a sense of the superiority of one entity over another.

But then, the roots and foundational meaning of words has little to do with your thought processes – facts are too inconvenient for your sub-culture.

A ‘racist’, is one who believes in the innate superiority of one race, over another.

A ‘nationalist’, (a parallel), is one who believes in the inherent superiority of his/her country over others… I AM a nationalist (unless Obama gets too much of his agenda passed)-!

Modern-day dictionaries, who are written by the ‘evolving English’ subculture (like you Chris) have twisted this meaning, and have deliberately blurred this with the meaning of racial bigotry and prejudice.

  7. Never bothered you before Chris E. Why stop now?

  8. You could offer the multi-cultural addendum as a separate pic, too to let your fans paste it onto any number of pics to make them “politically correct.”

  9. Thanks Chris E. I, however, will not hesitate to call you and Manuel racists, along with all others who have bought into the blitheringly stupid leftist line that implies that we should not really point out rotten behavior when it emanates from blacks. I will explain why your own behavior reeks of racism monemtarily– just hang on.

You seem aghast that I would dare to render what you call a “nightmarish negroid thug straight out of Stormfront propaganda.” Last time I reviewed the stats, something like 80% of black victims of murder were killed by… other blacks. I would suggest that the grieving families of these murdered mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and beloved children would very quickly concur with me that the miscreants who took the lives of their family members were indeed “nightmarish negroids.” The left attempts to downplay such statisitcs as these, and here’s where the racism comes in: when you refuse to fully condemn a non-white person for his or her abominable behavior– or when you “cut them some slack” for it due to “societal” reasons– what you are actually saying is: “I do not hold you fully accountable for your own acts because, unlike whites, you are not capable of full-blown, responsible human behavior.” If this is not a patronizing, condescending attitude toward the black race then I don’t know what is. By maintaining this long-standing patronizing attitude, the left helps to excuse and thus encourage black criminality and irresponsibility; and is actually, in today’s America, a prime cause for continued failure in the inner cities.

  10. Good one, badanov. I like the concept. Make even Old Masters prints into self-congratulatory PC statements! What a notion to warm the heart of a liberal. “Now you can Correct all your boring, non-racially-inclusive artwork…”

Personally I have to side with Glenn Beck on this one. President Obama has proven himself to be racist towards white people, so why can’t white people just be racist right back? If it’s good enough for the President, it’s good enough for me.

  11. Donna C.: May I marry you? Seriously, thanks for the too-generous compliments that I can only hope to half live up to.

A thought for you, wootabega and others: maybe there’s a way that a small percentage of Donna’s ebullient good vibes can be confiscated and redistributed to such as wootebega and Chris E., who seem to come here so down in the mouth and outright pissed at times? Sort of level the playing field, what about it guys?

    (Thx again Donna.)

  12. P.S. Just kidding (needless to say) about that last bit, Donna. Even as a jest, forceful confiscation from one party in order to give to another is a liberal –not a conservative–value, regardless of what element is being confiscated.

In the most sincerest way I can ask –
“and Limbaugh is an absolute race baiter.”

Where in the honest world can you quote the slightest thing from Rush Limbaugh, that supports he is a “…race baiter”-?

I have numerous mega-bytes of his radio shows on mp3 files – and I would be happy to send you copies – and challenge you to find ANY — ANY element of “race baiting”.

I am not an internet ‘tech – type’, so I do not know the efficient way to get you a few hundred hours of his radio shows, …but if you are inclined to support your accusation against R. Limbaugh that he actually “race baits”, I sincerely want you to bring forth a direct example of this.

Do you have an example of his “race baiting” -?

    Just one-?………. Please-!!?!!

    Chris E.,

I read your whole post and I wondered first of all whether or not you did that research yourself, or if that is just a cut and paste job.

No matter, if you can’t see the obvious commentary many of those statements are about precisely the inverted leftist racism that Zack has identified, then you are , frankly, a lost cause. The ones that aren’t so obvious, well, I have a suspicion context might be enlightening, but given your clear lack of smarts, time would be wasted in trying to find that out and explain it to you.

I’m not specifically defending Rush per se, but continuing to laugh at the monumental irony you display, totally oblivious. In spending so much time trying to attack the premise of Diversity Special Edition, you have once again confirmed Zack is spot on.

    Chris E-

Speaking of a ‘cut and paste’ job,
would you care to FOOTNOTE those-?

Reason: There are too many folks who out-rightly LIE, misquote Rush, and put their shameless lies on the internet.
So, if you went to some ”” web site, I will be glad to see the EXACT dates he is supposed to have said these – and cross check them in my vast audio archives.

In case you are interested, every attempt to misquote him,…have ALL failed.

So – please select which ever the one or two most incriminating “racist” statements are, PLEASE provide the date and I will be happy to delve into my archives, and compare.

Also – a number of the items you quoted, are not in any way racist, biggoted, or show racial prejdice.

The “magic negro” expression came from a BLACK liberal writer at one of the SF or LA papers.
Limbaugh has used it very often – to illustrate absurdity, with absurdity.
    Is that complicated-?

And, by the way, if Obama were Caucasian, he never would have made it to the SENATE – and no where near the DNC nomination.

His resume’ can fit on the back of a match book – he has no leadership experience, no executive management experience… never was elected to ONE mayorial, governor, or other such position. The gutless PC culture is afraid to openly admit he was elected as a ‘token’ symbol, because of his skin color.

Name ONE white individual (ok, JFK was one), who has a thimble-sized resume just like Obama’s – and has been nominated by a major party, for the Presidency!

Without exception, the dozens of people I spoke with before the election, who were NOT black, were EXCITED about being able to vote for the first black person on the Presidential ticket.
Also – the MSM showed these type of folks in interviews, by the hundreds…just gushing over the fact that they are about to vote for a black man, for President.

The content of Obama’s character did not matter-!

And – Obama IS a man-child… his character has been on display plenty long, he has no character or maturity for a leadership position, he is moody, thin-skinned, he even barked and whined at Maureen Dowd, in responce to her making fun of his ears.

    What a whimp-!! YES – a man-child-!!

Oops-! Sorry, ‘my bad’, because of his sacrosanct skin color, is Obama immune from criticism -?

  17. Thought bubble from the rather attractive woman on the left (!!!) of that group: “Is that a windmill on his head, or is he just happy to see me?”

  18. To go to Zack’s expanded rationale:

“the blitheringly stupid leftist line that implies that we should not really point out rotten behavior when it emanates from blacks.”

I do not believe this. I do not think that many people believe this. I *do* believe that when a black person does something you disapprove of, it’s pretty racist to go OH WELL YOU KNOW HOW THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE. I would no more approve of people — left or right — claiming that all black people are responsible for Michael Vick than I would try to get all Jews to atone for Bernard Madoff, or ask whites to think long and hard about whether or not they have any business complaining because Phil Spector is ONE OF THEIRS.

“You seem aghast that I would dare to render what you call a “nightmarish negroid thug straight out of Stormfront propaganda.”

In a strip that trades in stand-ins and representatives and symbolic characters, having the first and for a long time only black person be a big violent ape is somewhat troubling, since La Duayne implicitly is standing in for black people in general, not just one particularly nasty young man who liberals blindly defend because of his skin color.

“I would suggest that the grieving families of these murdered mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and beloved children would very quickly concur with me that the miscreants who took the lives of their family members were indeed “nightmarish negroids.””

See that’s the thing, if La Duayne Peterson kills someone, then you can call him a monster over that. I am only guessing, but if a member of a black family loses a loved one and it’s at the hands of another black person, their response is not “man I hate black people, always shooting people, why won’t these negros learn to behave, it’s a whole race of thugs!”

There is a difference between assigning blame to individuals who happen to be in a group and trying to assign blame to a group, and things like La Duayne seem to (perhaps deliberately) skirt that line.

I refuse to condemn an entire group of people for one person in that group’s abominable behavior. I see how that is a difficult concept for you to grasp, after the CIA discussion.

  19. Hehehe… this would make a fine Photoshop contest over at

    Very well under-stated, Zack.

Depends on your dowry. I am currently taking applications, and will set a date in the near future for the choosing. You can feel good knowing your brain gives you an edge. Tell me you wear glasses and have red hair, and I’m yours. =oP LOL!!

As for woot, and ChrisE…too bad for them. I don’t think that my effervescence would even make a dent in that surliness. If it must be redistribute, I vote we give it someone whom would actually appreciate it. So…that eliminates a great number of people! Afterall…didn’t you know it’s “cool” to skulk and be surly…no need to deign to the “little people”.

  20. Thanks Joseph. I’m glad you appreciated my understatement; I really like to aim for that…

Methodistmin: And our “Lowlights” magazine would have “Goofus and Goofus II.” There’s precious little Gallant behavior going down in this administration.

  21. Steve T.: Commenter of the Week award to you for having the patience and smarts to debunk Chris E.’s “Limbaugh-is-a-racist” garbage. I wanted to yell YOU LIE at my computer when I read that crap. If Limbaugh was ever to say anything genuinely racist, wouldn’t the left have been quoting it, no, screaming it, from the rooftops of their fraternity house, The New York times, unendingly for several headlining weeks? He is afterall the most hated man in their new vision of America, and they are afterall a combination Salem Witch Trial inquisitors and modern day Javerts from Les Miserables.

Love the thought balloon, Wes. I personally might have other ideas about what that character should do with his mini wind-turbine.

    Donna: My dowry depends on how ineptly this administration is going to continue to mismanage our economic crisis. As to the specific balance right now, I’ll have to check with my wife. No… wait;

  22. Zack, for the next round, you should have a bird getting killed by the wind turbine on the guy’s head, and all his friend’s gazing at him in sheer horror… 🙂

  23. It’s a hilarious visual, Wes. I might have trouble drawing it up though; being a pathetically sappy animal lover it would pain me even to render a dead bird… unlike liberals, who with zero compunction about killing birds plan to erect millions of these gargantuan avian killers from sea to shining sea.
